Electrolux Design lab 2011 competition

Ok so back in 2003, Electrolux started the Electrolux Design Lab which is an annual global design competition open to undergraduate and graduate industrial design students. The focus of the competition is to come up with innovative ideas for future household appliances, with each years competition having its own more specific theme. The theme this year was intelligent mobility, basically anything that helps prepare and store food, clean and do dishes in the house and on the move. The design must also be sensitive to the environment and aesthetically appealing. By the end of the end of the competition a jury will select the final 3 first prize being 5,000 euro and a six-month paid internship at an Electrolux global design centre second prize is 3,000 euro and third prize is 2,000 euro. So now that you have the back story lets get down to want these students came up with because its all quite neat. I'm only going to touch on of one today  but I'm going to have a few more blogs on some of my other favorites throughout the week.

Ok we'll start with my favorite entry the bio robot refrigerator you've probably seen a few pictures of this crazy looking fridge floating around the Internet and if you managed not to click on it...i couldn't resist ha ha, ill give you a quick overview.  Ok so that green stuff you see there is nonstick bio polymer gel that keep food cool through using a process called luminescence in which the gel absorbs heat and it disperses it in different wavelengths, basically instead of using energy to cool the food it just keeps the heats away. Pretty insane right and at 4x smaller that its competitors this little bad boy would be the perfect appliance for your future home, great job Yuriy Dmitriev.
